Three innocent youths accused of robbing foreigners will be charged
on 21 July 2017. The families are seeking bail money from Justice Fund.
On 26 July 2016, two foreigners, an Italian and a Moroccan, were robbed. They report the case to the police at the Sam Roi Yod Police Station, telling police that the assailants approached them on motorcycles and physically abused them as well as stealing their assets. The crime allegedly took place by the Pranburi- Sam Roi Yod highway in Moo 1, Tambon Sam Roi Yod, Sam Roi Yod District, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
On 1 Aug 2016, the inquiry officials of Samroyyod and Prachuap Khiri Khan arrested Mr. Natthawat Thanatthikanchana, aka “James Law”, 19 years old, Mr. Abhisak Silamud, aka “James Nongkhaem”, 20 years old, and Mr. Sanyu Sainamkhiao, aka “Man”, 20 years. The three accused persons reported that they were forced to confess to the crime; they were force to confess that they used a vehicle in the robbery and ran away using the vehicle on 26 July 2016. Mr. Natthawat Thanatthikanchana stated that he was tortured and ill-treated until he confessed. He confessed because he could not bear the injuries and was fearful of his losing his life.
On 19 Oct 2016, the inquiry official completed the investigation and pressed charges against only Mr. Natthawat Thanatthikanchana on criminal offences section 340 (2) and 340 (bis), section 83. Mr. Abhisak Silamud and Mr. Sanyu Sainamkhiao will not be charged.
On 26 Oct 2016, the families of three youths submitted their petition to Attorney General office seeking for justice as they pledged innocence, claiming they were not involved in the incident. They have also submitted key evidence showing that they were not at the crime screen when the robbery occurred.
However, after the investigation and despite the evidence that indicates the innocence of the three youth, the state prosecutor will file the prosecution on the three youths on 21 July 2017 at 10.00 am. The court will request 400,000 baht bail money.
